Our Legacy continues...
CDCW is a learning community devoted to children and families, and I have grown up inside its warm and inviting walls. My mother, Debbie Hungerford, established CDCW in 1995 in response to a need for childcare in the rapidly growing Wyndham area. She moved from a career as a computer programmer to one in education in order to serve both her own family and the community around her.
My sister, Lauren, and I grew up enjoying the classes, summer programs and after- school activities offered at the center. From the beginning, my mother's goal was to create a child care facility that stood out from the rest; to foster a hands-on, nurturing environment with the focus on developing each child's confidence, empathy, and enthusiasm for learning. That mission blossomed, and we grew up right along with the school.
I honed my skills at Virginia Tech, and then worked as an elementary school teacher, and library assistant, in Pittsburgh, PA. Then, after a few years away from the Glen Allen area, I received an offer that was too good to pass up. My mother invited me to take the reigns as preschool director and allow her to concentrate on the business side of the operation. My husband and I made the leap with both of us shifting careers, me to CDCW and him to an entrepreneurial endeavor with Project Green, an organic lawn care company, and we’ve never looked back.
Today, our family legacy continues with my son who is a student at the preschool; and as a parent I am humbled by the trust that our CDCW families place in us. It is a privilege to share the joy of learning with our students each day and I believe I speak for the entire staff when I say that we are blessed to be a part of this magical place.
Thank you for taking the time to learn our story, and it is my hope that someday I will learn yours.
