Mary Winston
Preschool Director

I knew from an early age that Early Childhood Education was where my career’s passion would lie. My mother, an ECE herself, cultivated in me a love of children’s literature, songs, whimsy, and love and respect for the child. I began my own education journey at Radford University, spending summers in Dallas, TX where I was able to explore and instruct in both Montessori and the Reggio Emilia schools. After graduating in 2006 with a B.S. in Art with an emphasis in Education, I settled back in Richmond where, in addition to leading art and jewelry workshops, I was a lead 3-year-old preschooler teacher in a private school in the Westhampton area.

Upon walking into CDCW in 2012, I remember feeling an immediate sense of wonder, creativity and a desire to be a part of the school and I’ve never looked back! In my 8 years here, I am thankful to have been able to experience both assistant and lead teacher positions before becoming the Preschool Director. Spending years in the classroom, alongside families, children and my fellow teachers have given me a true respect for how every “piece of the puzzle” is unique, but is part of the whole.

I have 3 beautiful children, who keep me on my toes and in our spare time, we enjoy exploring at the James River, discovering new parks around the city and trips to the library.
